If you invite enough friends to Microsoft Edge, you can easily buy yourself Xbox Game Pass or a gift card through Microsoft Rewards.

Microsoft has launched a new initiative where it rewards you with points if you use Edge on mobile and invite friends to try the browser using a special referral link. According to our tests, each successful invite earns you 500 Rewards points, and you can earn up to 7,500 points per month. You can accumulate up to 90,000 points in a year.

But this isn’t the first time Microsoft has tried to encourage people to use Edge. A few weeks ago, Windows Latest spotted that Microsoft was offering a $2 million prize drop for users who downloaded Edge, set it as their default browser, and performed a search from the address bar. Completing all of that secured five entries into the giveaway.

However, the above offer is only available to users in the United States. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can check the three-dot menu in Edge on Windows 11. It may appear randomly, as Microsoft wants to keep users engaged with the browser instead of just installing it once and forgetting about it.

Edge on mobile has a new referral program

I found another Microsoft Rewards offer, and it appears only in Edge on Android or iOS, but it’s not locked to any specific region. If you regularly use Edge as your mobile browser, you may eventually see a notification offering 500 Rewards points for every friend you invite.

The maximum limit is 7,500 points per month, which means you could earn up to 90,000 Rewards points in a year if Microsoft keeps the program running.

Microsoft Edge for Android and iOS provides a referral link that you can share with friends. If the person you invite has never used Edge before, they can qualify for the reward.

How the referral program in Microsoft Edge works

If you receive the alert on your phone, which only appears if you use Edge regularly, you can invite friends, and both you and the invited user can earn points.

Microsoft says the invited user must sign in and perform searches for two days within 14 days of joining for both users to receive the reward. The company also makes it clear that the offer is aimed at first-time Edge Mobile users who have never installed the browser before.

I tested it using my second phone with an alternative Microsoft account and immediately received the 500 points, so the offer appears to work. There does not seem to be an expiry date at the moment, although Microsoft could change the terms later.

The only catch is that you need to wait until the referral offer appears in your Edge browser. Microsoft is encouraging users to enable notifications so they don’t miss future Rewards offers.

I’ve reached out to the company for more details on how to force-enable the referral program in your mobile browser, and whether it’s possible at all.
