Facebook-owned WhatsApp is down in India and several other regions. This is not surprising as last year the company confirmed that New Year’s Eve is its “biggest messaging day” every year. Today, you won’t be able to send or receive messages regardless of the smartphone you are rocking, at least for some hours.

WhatsApp has neither confirmed nor denied the outage issue. We don’t know as to how long it would take to restore the service. DownDetector, a company which monitors the messaging services outage reports that WhatsApp is not working in India and the neighbour countries.

WhatsApp official Twitter hasn’t provided any details yet, though the hashtag ‘WhatsAppDown’ is currently the trending topic on the social media platform.

Several tweets have also confirmed that there’s indeed a problem in several regions. 2017 was a year full of similar issues for WhatsApp, even the parent company Facebook stopped working for several hours in the majority of regions across the world.

WhatsApp is expected to acknowledge the problem in the coming hours and we’ll update this article once the service is back up and running. Celebrate the New Year, WhatsApp will be back in a couple of hours.
