Earlier this week, Microsoft began rolling out the new cumulative updates to Windows 10 Mobile devices. The company released cumulative updates to phones with the Fall Creators Update, Creators Update, and Anniversary Update. The cumulative update for Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update focused on minor bug fixes and as the update includes security fixes, it is definitely worth installing.

Windows Phone users on Reddit reports that they cannot install the Windows 10 Mobile Build 14393.1884 despite having a supported device. When you will try to download or install the Windows 10 Mobile Build 14393.1884, Windows Update will throw an error “0x8018830f around 10-20% of prepare to install”.

This is a server-side issue and it is safe to assume that Microsoft is already working on a fix, however as Windows Phone is no longer the company’s priority, Microsoft will fix the bug in the coming days or weeks.

To fix Windows 10 Mobile update error 0x8018830f,

  • Go to Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Insider program.
  • Leave the Insider the program and check for updates (after a reboot).
  • Go to Settings -> Update & Security -> Turn of Device Encrption.
  • Reboot your phone and check for updates.

Still not able to install the new build on your Windows Phone? You may need to download the OTC Updater and update your phone or just wait for Microsoft to address the server-side bug.
