Back in May, Microsoft decided to pause the rollout of Windows 10 April 2018 Update for Alienware PCs due to issues that substantially affected performance and caused a black screen.
The update was blocked on the following PCs:
- Alienware 13 R3
- Alienware 15 R3
- Alienware 15 R4
- Alienware 17 R4
- Alienware 17 R5
Last week Alienware Support team told us that the April 2018 Update is now available for their systems and the issues that were previously reported have been fixed. At that time, Microsoft’s own documentation did not mention anything.
Microsoft has quietly updated the forum page to confirm that it has resumed the rollout of Windows 10 April 2018 Update to Dell’s Alienware systems.
“Microsoft was previously blocking these models from installing the update due to a known incompatibility that may cause these devices to display a black screen after resuming from battery saver mode. This incompatibility has been resolved and the block for these models has been removed,” writes Jess Can, Microsoft Agent in a forum post.
According to the updated forum post, Windows Update will notify you when the April 2018 Update is ready for your device. You can also manually check for updates from Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Update
Windows 10 April 2018 Update, also known as version 1803, was published on April 30 and is now available for all supported devices. Microsoft has already completed the rollout of the update and it should show up on compatible devices.
Microsoft had suspended the rollout temporarily in order to discover the cause of the bug and prevent more systems from getting it.
