Windows 10 KB4088787 fails to install on a number of computers for a reason that’s yet to be acknowledged by the software giant. Microsoft is not aware of any known issues in Windows 10 KB4088787 but the update still fails to install on some PCs and the users are clueless as no solution seems to be working for them.

KB4088787 is the cumulative update released for the Windows 10 Anniversary Update devices, and it comes with all important changes. Those who are still using a device with Windows 10 Anniversary Update says that they cannot install KB4088787 which was released by Microsoft as part of the March 2018 Patch Tuesday cycle.

Windows 10 KB4088787 fails to install with error ‘we can not finish update’. It’s worth noting that the Windows Update Troubleshooter doesn’t work for the users and since there’s no error code, it’s really not possible to look around the internet for a workaround as the error message is very common.

It’s pretty clear that the issue exists as a lot of users on Microsoft’s community forum has confirmed the reports. Windows will restore to the previous version of the operating system if the update operation fails. It’s worth noting that the issue doesn’t seem to be widespread and it doesn’t hit too many systems.

If the update fails to install, the changes are reverted and Windows 10 is restored to the previous version of the platform, but many users report that the update is reoffered for install. While Microsoft is not aware of any such issues, the company will still monitor the reports and release a hotfix if necessary.

Microsoft earlier this week confirmed that Windows 10 Anniversary Update will reach the end of support in Spring (April) of this year. The company says that no updates will be offered to these devices as Microsoft’s focus will be on latest versions of the operating system. The company recommends users to upgrade to a newer version of Windows 10. The end of life support also means that the system will no longer receive security updates.

“Windows 10 version 1607 (Anniversary Update) will reach end of service and receive its final security update on April 10, 2018. If you see a reminder that the latest version is ready to install, we recommend you follow the steps to pick a time that works best for you or update immediately,” Microsoft said.
