WhatsApp desktop app recently headed to the Microsoft Store and Facebook also started testing the beta version of WhatsApp for Windows 10 with selected users, and the beta app is now available for everyone. As only selected users were allowed to sign in to WhatsApp desktop, it wasn’t possible to use the messaging app on the desktop.

Today, Facebook is allowing all the users to beta test the new WhatsApp desktop app. WhatsApp Desktop for Windows 10 has been updated to new version 0.2.6958 and it removes the Facebook-only authentication system.

As it is in the early stage of development, WhatsApp Desktop is still unstable on Windows 10. Nonetheless, if you would like to try the new WhatsApp app, you can download it from the Microsoft Store.

WhatsApp Desktop for Windows 10 is an electron app, a web wrapper but with some extra features. Remember that you will still need to have a mobile device to authenticate on WhatsApp Desktop app.

As per the reports, WhatsApp is also not planning to develop a Windows 10 UWP app as the popular messaging service will still be supported on Windows Phone with important features and improvements.

I ask why they don’t produce an UWP softer. What they are waiting for?

    • YeahRrright

Cause no one cares about UWP, not even MSFT…

the business of microsft is cloud only. Whitout an mobile device, why have UWP? For desktop we have a lot of win32 apps that don’t need UWP for exist.

It’s not available for download …

    • Gonçalo Pinto

That happens to me too… can anyone help us on that?

      • YeahRrright

Of course no, what a silly question. Windows mobile is dead and there is no support.
