Surface Earbuds

In addition to Surface Neo, Surface Duo and other exciting Surface upgrades, Microsoft also took the wraps off its Surface Earbuds, which is an alternative to Apple’s AirPods and it works with any virtual assistant.

Unlike Surface Headphones, the Surface Earbuds work with any virtual assistant, including Cortana, Google Assistant, Alexa and others. In other words, if you set up Surface Earbuds with your Windows 10 device, you will have to use Cortana to control its commands.

By default, Siri launches on iOS for Surface Earbuds, but the default assistant might vary depending on the distribution of Android. For example, Surface Earbuds will launch Google Assistant on a Pixel phone but it Bixby launches on a Samsung phone unless you’ve changed it.

That means Surface Earbuds work with Alexa, Cortana, Google Assistant, Siri, Bixby and possibly other competitors as well. It’s not just limited to Cortana.

Surface Earbuds connects to pretty much any device that has Bluetooth, so you should be able to use it with your Windows PC, MacBook, Android phone or an Apple device. This makes sense as the operating system is no longer the most important layer for Microsoft.

Surface Earbuds offers Office 365 integration with apps like Outlook and PowerPoint are also supported.

The Earbuds offer up to 8 hours of listening per charge and you can buy the device for $249.
