Windows 7 KB4088875 and Windows 8.1 KB4088876 is now available for all supported and compatible systems. Microsoft has also released new cumulative updates for all versions of Windows 10 operating system, and the older supported versions of Windows operating system are also receiving new security updates.

First and foremost, let’s talk about security of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Microsoft says that they have addressed important vulnerabilities in this version of Windows operating system, it’s worth noting that the new patches for Meltdown and Spectre are also included in today’s update.

Microsoft has also released new cumulative updates for Windows 10 addressing the reported vulnerabilities and expanding the reach of new Intel’s firmware update for Meltdown and Spectre security flaws. Microsoft is expanding the availability of the patches to Kaby Lake and Coffee Lake processors on all supported versions of Windows operating system.

It’s worth noting that Microsoft has patched the latest-generation Intel chips, while the older processors will be patched as soon as Intel is ready with a proper fix that would not degrade the performance of the systems. Today, Microsoft has also shipped new patches for Meltdown and Spectre hardware bugs for Windows 7 and 8.1.

Microsoft is not adding any new features with today’s update but the software giant has fixed many bugs. The company has fixed an issue where Internet Explorer may not respond to the operations when Browser Helper Object is installed. The company is also fixing another issue with Internet Explorer would stop working and legacy Document Mode cell is not visible.

One of the most important changes is the availability of Spectre and Meltdown protections for 32-Bit (x86) and 64-Bit (x64) versions of Windows 7 operating system. Last but not the least, the new security update is now available for Windows MSXML, Windows Installer, Microsoft Graphics component,  Internet Explorer, Windows Kernel, Windows Shell and Windows Hyper-V.

Microsoft has fixed an issue where Outlook web app in Internet Explorer may not load properly. The other changes include fixes for the aforementioned bugs in Internet Explorer. Microsoft is also releasing Meltdown and Spectre security update to Windows 8.1.

Microsoft says that new security update is available for Internet Explorer, Windows Shell, Windows MSXML, Windows Kernel, Microsoft Graphics component, Windows Installer and Windows Hyper-V.
