Microsoft released today KB4015438 – a cumulative update for Windows 10 PC version 1607. It includes 2 immediate fixes to (1) crashes on media or DVD apps that use Microsoft MPEG-2 handling libraries and (2) deadlock issues on Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10 1607 clients with Switch Embedded Teaming (SET) enabled. These issues arise after installing the previous cumulative update KB4013429 which was released last week. These are critical issues that need to be addressed immediately, hence, Microsoft did not wait for the next Patch Tuesday and released the fix immediately. You can check Microsoft’s announcement here.

The build bumped to 14393.969. Head to Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update. Note: The update may take a while on “installing” after reboot but don’t worry it will proceed as usual.

If you are having difficulty downloading the update through Windows Update or stuck in a certain percentage. In case you want to manually download the update, the direct links are provided below. Downloading the file manually is also useful for those who have multiple Windows 10 PC devices and have limited bandwidth.

The size of 32-bit and 64-bit versions are 566.5MB and 1.06GB respectively. Note that these updates are cumulative. Therefore, the packages contain all previously released fixes.
