Windows 11 Build 23493 is now available for download in the Dev channel of the Windows Insider Program. It has many exciting features, such as Windows Copilot preview and native support for popular archives – .rar, .rar, .7z and more. The features included in today’s preview update should ship in the production channel with Windows 11 23H2.
Windows 11 Build 23493 has native support for archives such as rar and 7zp. This means you can right-click on any archive and extract the content to any folder of your device. Similarly, you can click on folders or files and archive them in the following supported archives:
- .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .tar.zst, .tar.xz, .tgz
- .tbz2, .tzst, .txz
- .rar, .7z
Microsoft says it knows at least one annoying issue in the update related to the archives support. For example, when you’re in File Explorer and try to copy files out of large archives or use Windows 11’s built-in “Extract All, ” the performance could be slower than expected.
Windows 11’s Quick Settings now support an upgraded volume mixer experience
Build 23493 adds a new volume mixer experience to Windows 11. You will notice that the volume quick settings now invoke Windows 11’s new modern volume mixer, allowing you to change all customization settings for select apps quickly. For example, you can click on the quick setting and change the volume for an app like Spotify without affecting other apps.
You can use a new keyboard shortcut WIN + CTRL + V to quickly open the volume mixer.
Microsoft is also letting anyone quickly turn on Windows Sonic experience and use spatial sound technology.
Another big update change is a new Settings homepage that lets you quickly view all important information, such as Microsoft 365, OneDrive, and other cloud or even local services.
Microsoft calls the feature “card” where each card offers relevant information without digging deep into the settings.
