Darktable, an open source free photo editor, previously available for MacOS and Linux, is now available for Windows. Darktable is a Lightroom alternative, with the app you can enhance the raw images and also manage digital negatives, it also lets you view themĀ “through a zoomable light table”.
Some features of Darktable includes Professional color management for managing colors of the image, supports many image formats (JPEG, RAF, HDR, etc.), GPU accelerated image processing and many more. The application also comes with many bug fixes, support for more cameras and new languages.
The application is in its early stage and has few bugs and limitations such as lack of support for printing and lack of non-ASCII character file name support when exporting and importing TIFF files, and for tethering requires special drivers to be installed.
Still, the application is stable and the team hopes that the users will enjoy the experience. It’s worth noting that Darktable is a Win32 application and it could be a great alternative to Lightroom as it is available for absolutely free.
