In an interview with Bloomberg, Microsoft’s CEO revealed that are only 1 billion Windows users and he also stated that Windows is still a very significant part of Microsoft but not the only priority.

Satya Nadella has recently published his book Hit Refresh where Microsoft CEO has discussed his personal life and business. In an interview with Bloomberg for the launch of his new book Hit Refresh, Nadella also speaks about Windows operating system popularity.

Satya Nadella has revealed that there’s a billion of users on Windows. “Windows, there’s a billion users on Windows. Three hundred million PCs were sold last year and it continues to be a very significant part of what we do, but it’s not the only part,” says Mr Nadella.

It appears that the statement has been misunderstood. Microsoft has already confirmed that there are more than 1.5 billion Windows users. Windows is, however, struggling to get new users but it is still the most popular desktop OS.

Back in 2015, the company was confident that Windows 10 will have more than one billion users by 2018 but the growth of the new operating system slowed down over time and Microsoft later admitted that it would take longer.

It is worth that the billion figure includes all Windows 10 devices such as PCs, phones, Xbox One, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, Surface Hub and even the Hololens (augmented-reality device with Windows 10). That being said, Windows is, of course, a popular operating system with more than 1.5 billion users.
