Bugs and issues of Windows 10 October 2018 Update

Here’s a list of active issues in Windows 10 October 2018 Update and the possible workarounds.

Broken Mapped Drives

Microsoft is aware of an issue in Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) where the mapped drives may fail to reconnect. It might work on some devices and if you’re impacted, a red X appears on the mapped network drives in the File Explorer. This bug exists in Windows Windows 10 version 1809, Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server version 1809.

Microsoft has also detailed the workaround to deal with this problem. The support document explains that the user can update the action of the drive maps to replace in the Group Policy settings. This workaround is supposed to delete the existing mapped drive to create the mapping again on each logon and address the problem.

Microsoft has confirmed that this issue in Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) will be addressed later this month.

Microsoft is expected to release a new cumulative update later this month for Windows 10 with fixes for the aforementioned and other bugs.

F5 VPN incompatibility issue

Microsoft notes that Windows 10 October 2018 Update could break down the F5 VPN service for some users and the company is aware of possible errors experienced by F5 VPN users after updating their computers.

“After updating to Window 10 version 1809, F5 VPN clients may lose network connectivity when the VPN service is in a split tunnel configuration,” Microsoft explains. The company is working on a fix and it will be shipped with a cumulative update later this month.

Microsoft says that the issue can be temporarily fixed if the user manually configures their systems and force the traffic through the VPN tunnel.

  • First off, you need to log in to the BIG-IP APM Configuration utility.
  • In the app, navigate to Access > Connectivity / VPN > Network Access (VPN) > Network Access Lists.
  • Navigate to the network access profile > Network Settings tab.
  • To confiure it for the client, you would need to click Advanced option. Otherwise, click Force all traffic through tunnel and tap on Update.

iCloud issue

iCloud version 7.7.0.27 is not compatible with Windows 10 October 2018 Update and you cannot install it on your device if you’ve already upgraded.

Microsoft is blocking the Windows 10 October 2018 Update on devices with incompatible iCloud software running. The compatibility issue will be addressed soon and the October Update will be offered once again.

Old AMD Radeon PCs

Microsoft is also blocking devices with AMD Radeon HD2000 and HD4000 series graphics processors from being offered Windows 10 October 2018 Update due to compatibility issues.

We will update this post when Microsoft details other issues with Windows 10 October 2018 Update.
