A new rumour suggests that Microsoft was interested in a big acquisition for their gaming endeavours. Though nothing is clear, rumours suggest that Microsoft considered acquiring big giants like EA and Valve and also PUBG Inc.

“The most recent one we heard (from a reliable source close to Microsoft) was, in fact, Electronic Arts. We also heard a whisper about Valve and about Korean outfit PUBG Corp., which Microsoft last year signed to a timed exclusive for its hit survival shooter, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.” Colin Campbell says through his article on Polygon.

Xbox really struggles when it comes to games with a limited number of exclusives to choose from. Even in 2018, only 3 exclusives are confirmed for Xbox while Sony leads with a lot more exclusives. The acquisition could be really helpful for the platform as many famous games like FIFA, Star Wars, Battlefield, etc. would be exclusive to Xbox and if it happens, Microsoft’s Xbox business will boost.

With that being said, it is not that easy to acquire such big companies. It would cost Microsoft around $36 billion to acquire EA alone which is too expensive and difficult for the Redmond Giant.

In mid-2017, Satya Nadella mentioned that gaming business was going great and these acquisitions may result in the higher growth of Xbox. With services like Mixer and Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft is really trying to provide a good gaming experience for the users. Microsoft still has nothing to say on this and its impossible to say whether this report is true or not. But if its true, it would help the platform a lot. What do you think?
