Earlier last month we have announced that Microsoft is ending support for its Windows 10 version 1511 and will no longer receive any security and quality updates. However the Version 1511 had received a new Cumulative Update from Microsoft two weeks ago bringing with it lot of bug fixes and improvements to the PCs upgraded with version 1511.

Now Microsoft confirms that it is currently extending support for Windows 10 version 1511 until April 2018.

The extension however is only for users of Windows 10 Enterprise and Education customers. The extension is to help the enterprise and education customers to finish their transition to Windows as a Service.

The company will be providing a supplemental servicing package for windows 10 version 1511 for another six months which would include updates for critical and important security issues arising until end of April 2018.

The company says that the updates will be made available to users with Windows 10 Enterprise or Windows 10 Education with version 1511. The updates will be pushed out via Windows Update, WSUS, Configuration manager and Windows Update Catalog.

As mentioned above the extended support is only applicable for Windows 10 Enterprise and Education customers with version 1511 and other users like Windows 10 Pro or Home would need to upgrade to the company’s latest version of Windows 10 to keep receiving new features and security updates.
