Facebook is said to be working on a new feature that shows notification counters from all of its other apps which lets users instantly switch between them.

Facebook, Messenger and Instagram are each testing a feature which can show notification counters from the other apps. The feature is supposed to boost the engagement across the apps by using the red notifications jewels to constantly remind users that there is something to see in other apps.

This would make users not to miss any alert as the red number lingering in the corner keeps beckoning for your attention. Facebook in an interview confirmed the testing of the new features by stating:

“We are conducting a very small test to make it easier for people to discover and connect with the people and things they care about. We’re exploring ways to help people switch more easily between their Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram accounts.”

The cross app switcher will appear when some users tap the profile icon in the top corner of Facebook, Messenger or Instagram. The particular icon displays the sum of pending notifications from other apps. Users will be able to see a red jewel denoting the unread alerts which makes users switch to the app with just a tap.

This cross app notification is currently only been tested for Facebook, Messenger and Instagram with WhatsApp not currently the part of the switcher option.
