WhatsApp Team is currently working on adding new features to its application on all platforms. The team is currently working on a new “Pin Chats” option internally which lets users pin a maximum of 3 chats to the top of the screen for easy access to the most recent messages.
Users can tap and hold on any chat and you get a new pin icon in the action bar next to delete, mute and archive functions. The option is currently available for Android Beta users with version 2.17.163 and above.
How the Pinned Chats Works:
- In the Chats screen, long press on the chat you wish to pin
- On the top bar, select the pin icon
The chat is now pinned and will appear on top of your Chats screen.
Once pinned the conversation stays on top of the list. Users will be getting a toast notification message saying you can’t pin more than 3 chats. You will also have an option to Unpin your Pinned chats whenever you change your mind.
Currently this Pinned feature is under internal testing for all platforms including Web and should be made available to Beta testers very soon. We will however update the article once we have more info on the availability of the Pinned Chat Feature.
