Earlier we have reported that Uber has been working on bringing a new safety feature which uses the Microsoft’s Cognitive Services for Real Time ID Check feature to India which makes the ride safer for both Rider and Driver.
The company has now rolled out the new Real Time ID Check feature to more new cities which include Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kolkata. The company plans to roll out the feature to more cities in the coming days or months. How the feature works:
The Real Time ID Check feature prompts the driver to share a selfie before going online to ensure that the driver is using the app which matches the account in his file with the company. They will be requested to take the selfie in the Uber app before they accept the rides. The company then users the Microsoft’s Cognitive Services to compare this photo to the one in the company records. If the photos don’t match then the account is temporarily blocked till the company comes out with any solution.
It was observed by Uber that during the Real Time ID Check the company’s systems accurately verified more than 99% of the drivers which makes this feature build security within the app.
What do you think about the new security feature Uber is currently working on, let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
