Microsoft yesterday pushed out a new update to its Digital Assistant Cortana for Android Devices. The Application was bumped to new version 2.1.5 for Android. With the latest Cortana update for Android, the Redmond Giant has removed  the support for Microsoft Band 2 which was available for Android Devices before this update.

Below is the changelog for the Android Cortana Update with version 2.1.5.

  • You can now change Cortana’s color in Settings
  • Faster and better: improved meeting retrieval speed by 20%

Exactly right at the bottom of the app’s description,  there is an important note:

  • Using Cortana with Microsoft Band 2 is no longer supported in Cortana app version 2.1.5 and later for Android.

There has been no specific clarifications or comments coming in from Microsoft in regards to the removal of Support for Microsoft Band 2. Since the company has cancelled/stopped the production of Wearable devices, could be one of the reasons the company decided to not support the Band 2 with Android Devices.

The support for Band 2 was introduced by Microsoft in June 2016 for Android Devices which allowed to obtain synchronization between the wearable and assistant in the operating system of the robot. Now exactly after seven months the support for Microsoft Band 2 has been removed after the latest update to Cortana for Android Devices.
