Last month, Ookla quietly released a Windows 10 version of its Speedtest app. This is separate from their Windows Phone app. Although the app UI is unique, it was not fully functional. You can not rescale the app just like what a normal UWP can do. Since it had that rescaling problem, the app was not usable in Mobile version. Some features were not also functional and led to several app crashes. These issues were fixed by today’s update. Once you’ve updated the app, you will notice that there is now a maximize button and the app is now properly scaling. The button at the upper left of the app is now working. It gives you information how many tests you’ve done, your highest connection speed, and your average connection. It now also shows your tests history which is very neat. The app is working now as it should be but it still has animation and lag issues. Startup problem on Mobile is still there. You have to re-launch the app or tap the blank space to make it work. The ability to change the speed type is still missing. It is currently in Mbps and you can not change it unlike on their Windows Phone app which you can choose freely from Mbps to KBps.
Overall, the update is very good and we look forward to stability and performances improvements on the next updates. As per changelog, they will add localization and additional features soon which are nice! Head to the Windows Store to download the update or click the link below.
P.S. – if you can’t download the app on your Windows 10 Mobile device, this trick will work.
- Acquire the app on PC first.
- Now use your Windows 10 Mobile device.
- Open Store and browse your library.
- You will find the download button there and click it.
- Voila!
