To a quick view, check the below details to get more information.
- Which features does my Lumia with Windows Phone 8.1 support ?
- Which features does my Lumia with Windows 10 Mobile support ?
In terms of specs its really not an high end phone comparing to today standard that Microsoft has mentioned above, except 2 GB of RAM and a good GPU its an average. During the launch Windows Phone 8 doesn’t support higher processor even though they are available that time.
Now coming back to windows 10 mobile build 10586.107, overall the device does work slower compared to windows phone 8.1, but its not that bad too. I will say, one you start running windows 10 mobile you will like in on 1020 and you will get used to it. The good display and thanks to 2 GB of RAM it does job very well in most of the situation (average camera performance I will say too).0
Before making review of lumia 1020 I did review lots of lumia phone and somehow you will get to know which device is actually working fine with W10M (Windows 10 Mobile). I will say the processor is more important here to handle the W10M. For a good example you can read Lumia 630 review here.
We opened some of the general day to day usage apps like,
- Here Maps
- Here Drive
- Adobe Reader
- One Note
- Microsoft Edge.
they open smooth and also worked very fine. On using the apps to for day to day purpose I had no issues in using them. The performance is fine
Multitasking and App Switching
As the performance is good the app switching and multitasking is great. Due to 2 GB of RAM the lumia 1020 handles heavy multitasking too. Even resuming games likes Asphalt 8 had no issues. They resume perfectly.
Some apps doesn’t show up the original screen when performing app switching.
Overall we had good experience in multitasking too.
When it comes to gaming the real performance of the device shows up. We played many games on Lumia 1020 earlier. In this build we did played only two games,
- Asphalt 8 Airborne
- Temple Run 2
We played Asphalt on default setting (Medium Graphics) level. To be honest there are lags. During game start it was more but once the game loaded in to memory there were a few only (2 GB RAM saves lumia 1020 here). Asphalt experience is also nice. Sensors works smooth and graphics rendering is also good.
Temple Run 2 works very smooth with only 2 drops in our notice, but most people wont even notice that too :). No complaints on that, just works great in single hand also.
If you talk about the Nokia Lumia 1020 and missed to discuss camera review its a shame to 1020. This is the only Lumia 1020 which still supports Lumia Camera (to handle 34 MP DNG Files).
We used both the Lumia Camera and Windows Camera for taking picture of same object.
Here is our observations,
- Windows Camera loads faster than Lumia Camera (much faster)
- Windows Camera stores only once image of effective 34 MP.
- Both images looks same(Lumia Camera 34 MP and Windows Camera 34 MP )
- Windows Camera images smaller in size (4.52 MB compared to 7.92 MB of Lumia Camera 34 MP)
- Lumia Camera stores two images
- 5 MP
- 34 MP (DNG)
I have uploaded the original photos in case you want to check those sample.
I will recommend to use Windows Camera
Since the lumia 1020 doesn’t support SD card removable battery, make sure to take proper backup if you are planning to upgrade. As said earlier you will not get disappoint.
